The extra credit firm slab was something that if you had time you could do. It was exactly the same as my previous firm slab with just different designs. Each side of my square was a flower. A skill that I have mastered along the way was smoothing out my firm slab so there aren't any bumps on it. And also, carving out the designs with the carver was something I've grown into liking. Elements that I have used mostly was form and shape. My firm slab consisted of 6 squares, making it into a box with a lid. For each of my flowers, I used a carver to carve out the shape which made the form of the flower look like it was going in. Using the elements, my flowers looked different and the outcome was way better than it would have been if I had just painted the flowers on. The firm slab was the idea of creating something unique and different. It consisted of a box like feature. For my firm slab, I created spongebob because he's squarepants. A skill that I have learned while creating this was that in order for it to be good and stable, you have to slip and score correctly. Not doing it properly will make the slabs fall apart in the process. Also another skill that I have learned was patience. That it took a while for everything to finish. Cutting out the slabs, designing each square, waiting for it to harden, attaching them together was mostly time consuming. An element that I have used mostly during the project was form and shape. I made mine 3-D like features for it to bring out more and used only square slabs, nothing of round like. Using these elements made my creativity expand beyond what I thought I could do. The finished project overall was pretty interesting. The soft slab was the creation of a mug that had to be above four inches after being fired. It was required to have some sort of design on the outside. For my mug, I created flowers and leaves on the outside. A skill that I have gained over the course of making the mug was making a handle takes practice and patience. I had to slowly move my hand up and down gently to make sure it's not smushed or fall off which was difficult to do so. The handle had to be firm to be able to properly attach onto the mug which took some time. The element that was mostly used in the mug was form. It is three-diminisioned that has value to it. It's width and height was overall pretty well. It wasn't too long, and not to short. Another element that was also used was color. I wanted my mug to be a bit more different so I made my flowers and leaves different colors than they should really be. The parts that didn't contain the flower or leaves were supposed to be full on white, however it did not turn out like that which was fine because it turned into an olive color which made it look even better. Making the mug was something new and exciting because now I'm fully capable of know what the requirements are and I'm able to look at it each time I drink out of it which makes me feel accomplished in some sort. The pinch pot creature was a project that consisted of creating your own creature with animal like features along with it. I used the idea of "angry birds" and created the red one. A skill that I have learned from the project was that it takes time and patience to make sure it's firm and stays still. Another skill/tool that I used in the process was the blue thingy that really helped me smooth my box. One of the many elements that i used was form. I had to correctly create the bird from the bottom and slowly rotate it and slowly adding on clay. This element/formation that I used was pretty interesting because I have not learned how to create it that way from the previous years of using clay. The coil-pot was the creation of imagination and creativity. It consists of three different types of styles on each layer. One of many skills that I've gained over the project is properly attaching the layers together. As in for elements, space was used to make sure that it's just not all clumped together and made it seem more alive. Form however though, was the main element used. Each layer was difficult to make because of the time it took to create the shape and attaching it on. For each layer, the style was different which made it look better and create diversity. The main form/layer that was the hardest to create throughout the project was the braids. It was hard to move the clay properly so it could gain it's shape and when it came to adding colors on it, I had to rub some of it off so it wouldn't look like just one awkward layer. Overall, it was a fun and creative project to do which took time and patience to create. |
